The table used by John Lennon at his favourite restaurant is up for sale on Internet auction site eBay. Lennon and wife Yoko Ono always sat at it when they ate at Café La Fortuna, streets from the New York apartment outside which he was shot dead. Bids for the small round table start at $50,000 [#27,000 GBP]. It was "retired" by the eaterie after Lennon was murdered by crazed fan Mark Chapman in 1980. Since then it has sat in the window of the café. Owner Michael Trapani has decided to sell it after he made plans to shut the restaurant down. He said: 'I don't want that table sitting in my basement where only I can see it, it's special'. The auction is private so it is impossible to see how many bids have been made since it was listed last week.
